RMIT University was founded 1887 and was established as a university in 1992. We have more than 96,000 students and 9,000 staff globally.
RMIT University is a global university of technology, design and enterprise. Our mission is to help shape the world through research, innovation, quality teaching and engagement, and to create transformative experiences for students, getting them ready for life and work. We do this by developing a rich portfolio of future work courses that are co-designed and delivered with industry experts and offering a variety of course types from short to postgraduate. We take pride in gaining better than industry student satisfaction, equipping students to shape the future and transform lives.
RMIT University has built a dedicated support service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Known as Ngarara Willim Centre, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can receive ongoing guidance with study, living and cultural needs. Aside from accessing its facilities in the Melbourne city, Brunswick and Bundoora campuses, current and future online students are encouraged to contact the centre via the phone on (03) 9925 4885 or via email at ngarara.willim@rmit.edu.au. For updates on activities and opportunities including scholarships, internships, mentoring and employment, free tucker and even travel, subscribe to the centre's mailing list.
We offer six seven-week study periods a year, meaning you can complete a graduate certificate in eight months, a graduate diploma in 16 months or a master's degree in two years. Each course has a seven-week duration and requires a minimum 15–20 hours of study per week.
Our 100 per cent online postgraduate degrees are designed specifically for an online experience. Our specialist online learning designers and renowned academics collaborate to craft engaging, interactive content, making the experience enjoyable. Online study at RMIT is flexible and convenient, so you can use study tools and work on any device at any time. Our cutting-edge learning environment means you don’t have to be a computer whizz to use it. The content is also structured into time-based blocks so you can manage your studies to fit around your work-life commitments.
Credit (also known as Recognition of Prior Learning) is the recognition of previous study or learning that can be counted towards a current program. This can reduce the number of courses needed to complete your RMIT program, which means the length and cost of your studies are reduced and you don’t need to spend time learning things you already know.
If you have undertaken relevant prior study or learning, you can apply for this to count towards your current RMIT program. To determine your eligibility and how many credits you can get, contact our Student Enrolment Advisors who will assess your application on a case-by-case basis. They can be reached via the phone on 1300 701 171 or via email at futurestudents@studyonline.rmit.edu.au.
This depends on the program you'd like to study. For example, you can enrol into our MBA program if you have a higher level qualification in a business-related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution. For more information, refer to this article. Likewise, you can enrol into our Master of Data Science program upon the successful completion of our Graduate Certificate in Data Science plus a minimum of three years' Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) work experience in an industry setting, or if you have an Australian graduate certificate or graduate diploma or equivalent in business (or a related discipline). For more information, please select your program of interest from the Online programs dropdown menu at the top of this page, and click Entry requirements on the sticky menu on the bottom right.
If you are impacted by unexpected circumstances outside your control (including illness), you can apply for an extension or special consideration. Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. To find out more, including which assessment adjustment is right for your circumstances, see Special consideration and extensions.
FEE-HELP is the Commonwealth Government's study assist scheme, which can be used to pay all or part of your tuition fees – it does not cover costs like accommodation, laptops or text books. If you are an Australian citizen or a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa, you may be eligible for FEE-HELP. You can apply for it once you have enrolled in a program. For information about eligibility, how to apply and payment, visit www.studyassist.gov.au/help-loans/fee-help.
